National Pharmacovigilance Week at Government Medical College, Ongole.

The National Pharmacovigilance Week at Government Medical College, Ongole, held from 17th to 23rd September 2022, was a significant event organized in collaboration with the Pharmacovigilance Program of India (PvPI). The theme for this year’s observance was “Encouraging Reporting of ADRs by Patients.” The week-long program aimed to enhance awareness and confidence in pharmacovigilance among students, healthcare professionals, and the general public through various educational and awareness activities.

The event kicked off on 17th September 2022 with an Essay Writing Competition from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, coordinated by Dr.N.Suresh Babu,Assistant professor, Department of PharmacologyGovernment Medical College, Ongole. The competition was judged by Dr. Uma Maheswari, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology at ACSR Medical College, Nellore and Dr. Pradeep, Assistant Professor, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Government Medical College, Ongole. Participants showcased their academic and creative excellence, and prizes were distributed to the winners.

Later that day, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, an Elocution Competition was held, coordinated by Dr. Supriya S. and judged by Dr. Uma Maheswari and Dr. Prasanna Assistant Professor Department of Preventive and Social Medicine. Students delivered insightful speeches on various aspects of pharmacovigilance, impressing the judges with their knowledge. Prizes were awarded to the outstanding speakers, encouraging a deeper understanding and engagement with the subject.

On 17th September 2022, Former Principal Dr. K. Solomon Raju, then Head of the Pharmacology Department at Ongole Government Medical College, addressed a conference on “World Patient Safety Day” with the theme “Medication Without Harm” in collaboration with the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine,  As the HoD, he highlighted the importance of awareness regarding medication side effects and congratulated Dr. S. Appala Naidu,then Professor and Head, of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicineand the faculty. Dr. PV. Sudhakar, Principal of Government Medical College, Ongole, announced that National pharmacovigilance programs would continue at the college until the 23rd of the monthat the college, indicating ongoing efforts to promote medication safety and the reporting of adverse drug reactions.

On 20th September 2022, a Quiz Competition was held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, coordinated by Dr. Supriya S., Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology. The event engaged participants with pharmacovigilance-related questions, and prizes were distributed to the winners by Dr. PV. Sudhakar, former Principal of Government Medical College, Ongole, who praised the participants for their enthusiasm and knowledge.

A Sensitization Program for Faculty and Postgraduates took place on 21st September 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, coordinated by Dr. K. Solomon Raju, then Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacology. This program educated faculty and postgraduates on pharmacovigilance practices. The week’s activities concluded on 23rd September 2022 with a Sensitization Program for Nursing Staff from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, coordinated by Dr. Ch. Jhansi Vani, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, focusing on enhancing the knowledge of nursing staff regarding pharmacovigilance.
